Why We Keep Looking for Signs Instead of Making Decisions

Have you ever caught yourself thinking, "I just need one more sign before I decide"?

Maybe you've pulled another oracle card, searched for another angel number, asked another friend for advice or spent hours researching the "right" decision.

I've been there too.

For a long time, I believed I was searching for guidance. Looking back, I realise that what I was often searching for was certainty.

Our brains crave certainty

As humans, we're wired to seek safety. Uncertainty can feel uncomfortable because our brains naturally want to predict what's going to happen next.

When we don't know the outcome, we often look outside ourselves for reassurance.

Sometimes that's through spirituality.

Sometimes it's through Google, podcasts, YouTube videos or asking everyone around us what they think.

Although those things can be incredibly helpful, they become a problem when they stop informing our decisions and start replacing them.

Guidance or reassurance?

One of the biggest shifts in my own journey has been recognising the difference between seeking guidance and seeking reassurance.

I still value intuition.

I still believe signs and synchronicities can be meaningful.

I still use oracle cards with clients when they feel appropriate.

But I no longer depend on them to make my decisions.

Because I realised that if I kept asking the same question repeatedly, I wasn't really looking for wisdom anymore.

I was hoping someone—or something—would remove the uncertainty for me.

The difference between fear and intuition

Fear usually wants certainty before it allows us to move.

It tells us to wait until we know exactly how everything will unfold.

Intuition is different.

It doesn't promise certainty.

Instead, it quietly encourages us to take the next aligned step.

That's why building self-trust is so important.

The more we learn to trust ourselves, the less we need external confirmation.

The spiritual practice of self-trust

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that spirituality isn't about handing your power away.

It's about coming home to yourself.

It's about becoming someone who can pause, reflect and make decisions that align with their values, even when the future isn't guaranteed.

That doesn't mean we'll never notice signs.

It simply means we appreciate them without becoming dependent on them.

A question to reflect on

The next time you find yourself asking the Universe for another sign, pause for a moment and ask yourself:

"If I already trusted myself, what would I do next?"

You may already know the answer.

If you're on your own journey of building self-trust, confidence and creating lasting change, I'd love to support you.

Whether that's through my coaching, healing sessions or free podcast episodes, my hope is always the same—to help you reconnect with yourself and create a life that feels aligned from the inside out.
